Image
Modal Underwear, are there Differences in the Fabric? There are different classifications of modal   40s, 50s, 60s, 80s, 100s Modal fabric has the benefits of cotton , but  does not have any of the downsides.  The primary reason why modal is becoming more popular is due to its softness.  But did you know that modal has various grades of softness?  Modal fabric is usually a composition of both polyester and modal. The polyester content accounts for the strength involved with modal fabric. The ratios of the composition is one of the factors that determines the softness.  The other component is the modal yarn that is used.  The advertisers of apparel products will sometimes label their material as micro-modal or Lenzing modal. For a deep dive into modal fabric, check this blog out , or you can even go to Tencel (the parent of Lenzing) This blog is to explain the main difference between modal products that are similar to each other but have differing pric...

Cotton Underwear: Plus and Minus

We all have worn cotton underwear.  Cotton is the most popular fabric used to make underwear; for good reason.  Cotton is a durable fabric and is a cool material which makes it perfect for the summer.  Plus, cotton underwear is inexpensive and easy to find in stores.  There are many different types of cotton underwear to choose from, both in store and online. Cotton underwear is by far one of the best options if you want to be comfortable without spending an arm and a leg! Absorbs sweat and holds on to moisture But, there are some they downsides that come along with this popular fabric choice.  Cotton underwear absorbs sweat as well as it absorbs moisture.  It is not the best material if you want moisture to evaporate, and that is especially true of thus durable material.  The fabric also tends to hold onto odors, which means if you don't wash your underwear often enough, they can start to smell bad. Less soft after many washes: Unless you pay Be...

Graphene in Underwear- Anti-Bacterial

Image
As described in the Nylon posts , nylon does not absorb moisture.  As such, when nylon is used in underwear, that underwear has an inherent flaw that kind of defeats the purpose of underwear, and that is to keep the area comfortable.  That is why natural fibers are used most prevalently.  But nylon is so cheap to produce, that it is cost effective to try to solve its inherent flaw. Graphene on underwear The solution that some manufacturers have settled on is by using graphene.  This is a new high-tech fabric that has still not found its way into mainstream apparel, but we will see more and more of it in specialty products.  Graphene, as the name suggests, is comprised of carbon atoms.  It is  hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and about 200 times stronger than steel.   It  will absorb your body heat and keep you warm for as long as you wear it. Graphene clothes promote healthiness because they’ll keep out bacteria. But as we know, all new...

Cotton Underwear Background Cont...

...From Cotton Underwear Background Part 1  My underwear of choice had been Calvin Klein white cotton briefs from Macys. They were softer and more comfortable than the Jockey and Fruit of the Looms; but they were also more expensive. I did splurge on some DKNY cotton briefs, but the pair purchased ran a little small, and for the price, I thought that the Calvin Kleins provided a good enough value (side note: the DKNY pair is still around 20 years later, while I had to replace the Calvin Kleins many times.) As my exclusive retailer was Macys, I ventured to other brands that they carried. I tried the 2(x)ist brand. This underwear brand came in various shapes, and I was game to try the new and varied styles. For the most part, I did not go back to this brand. The style cuts were just not to my comfort, and they sat a little too low on the waist. I did like the way that the boxer briefs (fitted boxers) fit for the most part. They were a similar length and similar coverage of box...

Cotton Underwear Background Part 1

Image
When I started writing this piece, I thought that I would be able to just compare the old cotton briefs and boxers to what is out right now. But the topic is a lot broader than that. Let us continue with cotton briefs. So, one of my favorite stores is Banana Republic. I especially like their soft t-shirts. They come out with new ones every year, and they are not just plain cotton, they have Soft Wash, Linen, Luxury Touch, Cotton and Silk among other species of cotton shirts. They are all very comfortable. So, I decided to try their briefs. They are made of cotton, and come in a three pack. Since I needed more than three, I went on their brother site, The Gap, and decided to try some of their underwear. So, I ordered a three-pack o the Banana Republic black underwear briefs, and 2 of The Gap grey cotton briefs. The Banana Republic black cotton briefs, are similar in design to the standard Jockey/ Fruit of the Loom briefs. The cotton is standard, the fit is nice, and ov...

Seamless Underwear Explained

Image
Seamless Underwear Seamless Underwear Looks so Fancy Seamless Underwear and it's Advantages Designers have finally done away with the seam on the waistband of underwear!!!  I didn't realize that was a problem that needed addressing.  But, there you go, problem solved.   The seamless band around the waist does look nice.  The transition from the nylon waistband to the material on the underwear is very clean and sharp looking.  The trick, as you might have guessed, is that they did away with the seam that attaches the waistband to the main portion of the underwear.  Also, the seam around the leg has been done away with. Some clever manufacturer started this trend, and now it is becoming more and more popular due to the clean lines and smooth look of the product.  This look is achieved by using glue.  Thats right, they glue the waistband onto the underwear with a high temperature press.  The trend started mainly on underwear made using ice ...

Nylon in Underwear Part 2

Continued from...Nylon in Underwear As we know, cotton excels at picking up moisture. Cotton boxers absorb some of the moisture from the body, and as they are loose, the absorption keeps that moisture away from the skin. Check out boxers vs. briefs. Circle back to the comparing nylon with cotton. As the cotton underwear is great at moisture collection, nylon is at the opposite end of the spectrum. Nylon underwear does not do anything with the moisture produced by the body. The moisture just leaks throughout the nylon material and either dries on the material or gets absorbed by the article of clothing next to the nylon material. As the nylon does not absorb anything, the natural bacteria can cause a smell that can linger around the nylon covered area. The inner thighs get slick, resulting in the potential for chaff. Read about some developments in nylon underwear . and some ways that are being used to make nylon more user friendly .

Nylon in Underwear Part 1...

How soft can you get? That is a question the clothing manufacturers have been wrestling with for as far back as anyone can remember. Marco Polo and other explorers traveled around the world trying to find a better way to bet to China and India to import silk. As a race, we try to minimize discomfort. Fabrics made from all different sources have been used to manufacture materials that could be made into the fashion pieces available to wear. One of these sources is nylon; a man-made material. Nylon material can be soft, it is durable, light, and inexpensive. Therefore, depending on the manufacture process, nylon underwear can be very soft and comfortable. There have been advances in manufacturing that have propelled the use of nylon to making various shapes and styles of underwear. Nylon is combined with other materials to produce a more custom blend and feel of fabric. The fabric itself has been around for a long time, and the uses for it are numerous and varied. It is s...

Ice Silk Underwear Reviewed

Image
Ice Silk Underwear for Men Ice Silk Inventive uses for nylon in the manufacture of underwear is now the norm.  With the supply chain of retail companies going global, the manufactures that are part of the supply chain are continuing to innovate to attract more customers.  Hopefully, it is the consumer that benefits from this.  But I digress. Ice Silk Transparency are a modern version of polyester. The Chinese have dubbed this material "ice silk". The fabric is smooth to touch and feels very soft on the skin. Pair #1 I had a chance to try a couple of different brands of ice silk underwear.  The first style I reviewed is the pink one shown above.  The first thing you notice is how smooth, light, and soft the underwear is. There is no doubt that these are a comfortable pair of underwear.  The item is composed of two pieces of fabric sewn together with the seam on the sides.  The front pouch area is formed by mechanically stretching the fabric so th...

The Best Underwear for 2022 Introduction

Image
The Best Underwear December 2022 With the introduction of new fabrics, as well as manufacturing technics, men's underwear has become something that gives a man choices. In the contemporary history of underwear choices, men were able to purchase Fruit of the Looms, Sears, JC Penny, or Mervyns cotton briefs. Along came Calvin Klien, and they made cotton briefs a little more comfortable. But, these briefs still lacked "something". Men did not know what made the briefs lacking. Along came boxers, and men thought "at least they aren't cotton briefs!" Unfortunately, boxers, while more freeing in the private area, brought forth a new problem that did not happen with the briefs; namely sweat. You see, the briefs soaked up the sweat so that it did not chafe the inner thighs. Boxer's, while comfortable and freeing, did not soak up the sweat; thereby letting the sweat drip down the thighs and sometimes caused chaffing. Present Which brings us to the modern era...
