Modal Fabric: 60s 80s Underwear Weaves
Modal Underwear, are there Differences in the Fabric?
There are different classifications of modal 40s, 50s, 60s, 80s, 100s
Modal fabric has the benefits of cotton, but does not have any of the downsides. The primary reason why modal is becoming more popular is due to its softness. But did you know that modal has various grades of softness? Modal fabric is usually a composition of both polyester and modal. The polyester content accounts for the strength involved with modal fabric. The ratios of the composition is one of the factors that determines the softness. The other component is the modal yarn that is used. The advertisers of apparel products will sometimes label their material as micro-modal or Lenzing modal.

This blog is to explain the main difference between modal products that are similar to each other but have differing prices. The manufacturer, or the name brand of the underwear decides the composition of material to use in their product. This is primarily based on who their intended customer is. If the underwear seller is just trying to sell to the most amount of people through marketing campaigns, they will label their underwear as "modal", and leave it at that. It will be a mix of model and polyester/spandex like other underwear, but the type of modal is where it gets tricky.
The retailers and brand owners that put their name on the modal underwear, usually know what type of modal they are selling. Model material is made from different coded yarn classifications. The lower classifications of 40s and below, usually are not advertised. You start to see the mentioning of the type of yarn in the modal beginning when it is made from 50s and above. The number is related to the length and weight of the yarn branches. The higher the number, the thinner the yarn, the finer the fabric woven for a softer, smoother, and better wearing experience.
The modal type that is used by the majority of name brand manufacturers of underwear is composed of 50s and 60s.These are very very soft and comfortable. Then of course. the yarn composition goes up to 80s. These feel even more luxurious. I have seen underwear made from 100s, but I have not been able to test them.
Visit Runamente for exceptional modal underwear. There are also brands on Amazon that have some underwear made of modal, but don't expect them to tell you what classification it is.
The difference, of course, between these yarns, is the cost. The difference from50s to 60s is about 6%, and from 60s to 80s is about 10%. This price, while seemingly small, is pretty substantial in the retail world. Companies profit margin is often less than 10%.
In short, when comparing modal underwear, don't just look at the price of each for comparison; realize that with the additional cost could come additional comfort and luxury. Ask the retailer the modal number their fabric is composed of.
